Whilst currently working on music for a new album and label (more on this soon), Metronomy get set to release a limited edition 7" 'Radio Ladio' on their own imprint Need Now Future Records.
'Radio Ladio' is a pretty perfect reintroduction to Metronomy's frenetically brilliant hybrid style. Flecks of Pharrell (the best bits), Rick James, and occasionally OutKast (on this track at least) are knitted together with trademark Metronomy electronics to produce something funkier, and more fresh than anything to have been packaged and shipped out in day-glo this side of Christmas.
Since the release of their critically acclaimed debut album 'Pip Paine (Pay The £5000 You Owe)', the London based three piece have been busy garnering a word of mouth/in-the know fanbase, fast becoming a favourite with the likes of Klaxons, CSS and Kate Nash.
Even though 'Radio Ladio' will be the first release since the 'You Can Easily Have Me' EP (2006), band member Joseph Mount's prolific remixing career (Ladytron, Klaxons, Franz Ferdinand, Sebastien Tellier, Gorillaz, Love Is All, Kate Nash, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Roots Manuva amongst others) and the band's consistent touring have kept Metronomy's name in the all the right places over the past year.
The musical zeitgeist of 2007 has been the indie-dance crossover - the indie kids are dancing again, and the dance kids are moshing. Metronomy slot perfectly into this new, experimental landscape, though they mine their own seam. Sitting somewhere between Kraftwerk, Devo, N.E.R.D and your favourite indie band, as well as experimentation there's also a joyous humour in what they do. From the robotic frivolity and monkey (perhaps?) noises of 'Are Mum's Mates' (B side to 'Radio Ladio'), to the light show/synchronised routines/occasional dance troupe of their increasingly renowned live shows. The time seems to be right for them to achieve the widespread acclaim they so obviously deserve.
Metronomy will play the Reading/Leeds festivals on August 25/26th, and will support Foals and Kate Nash throughout the Autumn. Further live dates to be announced along with details of their forthcoming album, due in March 2008.
